Try dmesg:
paul@server2:~$ dmesg | grep firmware
[ 5.885197] platform radeon_cp.0: firmware: requesting
radeon/RS780_pfp.bin
[ 6.071215] platform radeon_cp.0: firmware: requesting
radeon/RS780_me.bin
[ 6.092606] platform radeon_cp.0: firmware: requesting
radeon/R600_rlc.bin
The firmware for the radeon HD is in the package firmware-linux-nonfree.
