Most modern linux systems automatically manage that, no need to tweak or 
setup nothing. An old BIOS is the one that can make noise here.

I've always experienced problems for installing GRUB in the first 
attempt, I mean, on standard disks. When it fails, I select "do not 
install a bootloader" and get it from another source (i.e., 
SuperGrubDisk).

Expert installer should ask for the GRUB version to install.
