I assume that at some point during the burn process 'cdimage.raw' is
created by wodim from the files selected for burning.  If it had been
created in this way it certainly did not exist after K3B was closed, as
I never save these files on closing.  I suppose it is even possible that
for some reason it never got created.  In the KDE window the last entry
said something to the effect that there inadequate permission to execute
the second-to-last step in the process, actually burning the CD.  What
the debug file showed I quoted in my first post.
