Indeed I am using gnome. I did not mention which WM because I don't know how to query for this information! Also I don't know what means "DE" but I hope I answered your question.

DE = Desktop Environment (GNOME, KDE, XFCE, etc.)
WM = Window Manager

A Session Manager is *part of* a DE.

The Session Manager plus WM plus panel plus integrated other junk combines to make a DE.

In the X Window System, a Window Manager is almost a requirement.  A
Session Manager is optional.  The Window Manager used in the GNOME
Desktop Environment is metacity.
