PCI Riser cards are cheap and easy to get hold of, I have loads of the
things. Ram fits, you can get passive heatsinks or if its not adequate,
fit small but powerful fans throughout the case, this is what dell and
HP do, but you can buy CPU fans that fit in 1U cases. Almost all of my
cases are 1U and I have no problems with cooling. PSU's you can get, and
even redundant PSU's if you have enough space internally. All the
problems I've had with 1U servers wouldn't have been solved by having a
2U+ sized case. I have had issues with stock PSU's being poor quality,
but I've had years of service out of them before. It's best to keep a
spear around anyway so have one, and you will be fine :)
