Thanks. I just re-read these links (as I had already read them before; I should
have mentioned it, sorry).

I tested a second time, and, starting with such a GRUB:

==
title		Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.26-2-686-bigmem
root		(hd0,4)
kernel		/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.26-2-686-bigmem root=/dev/sda5 ro quiet
initrd		/boot/initrd.img-2.6.26-2-686-bigmem

title		Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.26-2-686-bigmem (single-user mode)
root		(hd0,4)

initrd		/boot/initrd.img-2.6.26-2-686-bigmem

title		Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.26-2-686

### END DEBIAN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST

and playing with apic and ACPI (i.e. adding `acpi=off noapic' to the
kernel options) does not solve any problem.

Any idea? :-(

Thanks.
