Well, well well. I had installed squeeze on this machine right after lenny 
became stable. And then xserver wasn't working and I had to do that Xorg -
configure staff as dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg would not change anything. 
And I never looked at it again. Following your reply I move the xorg.conf file 
to xorg.conf.old and restart xserver, and IT WORKS!!!!

So we will not give up hope.
