Hugh again: Thanks Jack, but as it turned out 'dd' did the job. My
earlier efforts failed because I didn't type correct commands.
So,
dd if=<some.file> of=/dev/cdrom
worked after all to copy an image to a floppy, in this case the image
of a boot floppy, to a usb floppy. I was quite confused when I asked
for help here. :(
