Surgery and Aftermath (SOLVED?)

After complete shutdown, it booted up OK (I guess this is the first thing to 
try on such problems!).

The matrox mga acceleration works (such as it is--not the best card in the 
world but by nvidia died).

So the little surgery succeded. I will undo it when and if firmware-linux is 
fixed.
