How much RAM to you have? If more than 3GiB, use a 64-bit kernel. How much RAM will a single application need to address? If 4GB or more[1], use a 64-bit userland. Very few applications benefit significantly from the expanded registers in 64-bit mode. If you have one of those, use a 64-bit userland. 64-bit userland -- amd64 a.k.a. x86_64 a.k.a em64t image 32-bit userland -- x86 image I *think* a 64-bit kernel is available on the x86 mirrors, but I'm not entirely sure.
