boot failure -- checking the boot partition

Out of the blue, Debian failed to boot.

I have loaded debian-live-500-i386-rescue.iso, and now I would like to
mount the boot partition /dev/hda1 and...oops, I can't mount /dev/hda1
without root permission, and I can't get root permission without
access to hard drive!

Is there a way out of this fly-bottle?

Best Regards,

New York City
