Tom,
You need top open port 22 on the destination machine and make sure your 
have openssh-server installed on the destination as well.

I use shorewall and have the following rule to allow ssh on 22...

#ACTION		SOURCE		DEST		PROTO	DEST	SOURCE		
ACCEPT	         all 	         F$	         tcp	 22
