USB 2.0 rather than USB 1.1
1200dpi rather than 600dpi rather than 300dpi rather than etc, etc, ...

My "shortlist" ended up being:

Epson Perfection 2400
Epson Perfection 2450
Epson Perfection 3200
Epson Perfection 4870
Epson Perfection 4990

Some of these are only available second-hand from ebay (which is
exactly what I did). You might also find the following selected posts
