How do I do that - where do I look?
Email bugnumber@bugs.debian.org?

That gives me the following reply:

  <bugnumber@bugs.debian.org>

SMTP error from remote server after RCPT command:
host bugs.debian.org[140.211.166.43]:
550 unknown user

Obviously you need to substitute the actual number of the bug, as you
have found out.

So I tried 464402@bugs.debian.org but that hasn't responded at all.

You should retrieve a notification mail after some time (it usually
takes ~10 minutes, but may also take hours sometimes). You will
probably not receive a friendly response from the package maintainer if
you send empty messages (it just appeared on the web:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=464402#27).

Oh! I thought the previous poster suggested I should email that address to receive a status report a la majordomo mailing list commands. Sorry about that!
