Beyond this the OOo help is of no help, so I am really hoping that
someone here has an answer. I have a large document that I need toprint
out so I am feeling a little crazy about this.

Any tips/ideas please?

I don't know how to fix your OOo printing problem, but if you export thedocument as a pdf from OOo then you can print it off from evince or xpdfand solve the immediate problem
