Mystery of xlogin invocation; was Re: "The xlogin widget, ..."

Thanks. I should have realized that; but the reference to
"xlogin widget" sounds generic. It is just another
program; the manual could drop the "widget".

cd /etc
find . -type f -exec grep "xlogin" {} \; -print
reports that limits are set in ./security/limits.conf
and nice details such as
xlogin*greetColor: Blue3
are set in ./X11/xdm/Xresources.
The invocation itself remains a mystery. Where, oh
where is xlogin invoked?
