Darn straight, that worked _instantly_.

Oh, just to clarify, the server was already in my laptop's /etc/hosts. 
What I did was add the laptop to the _server's_ /etc/hosts.

Thank you. 

It's left as an extra-credit exercise for the future as to what 
happened in the last week to cause the DNS lookup to matter so 
much. :^)
