Curiouser and curiouser...
since you (Celejar) are able to send email through gmail via exim, I
decided to reconfigure exim4 on my Debian box, knowing now that it
SHOULD be possible. And, at least, it would generate the appropriate
errors in the exim4 logs for all to see.
Once again, I made gmail my smarthost.
And--at the moment at least--I am now able to send email from my local
box to my gmail.com account. Go figure.
Very strange.
At the very least, I now know that what I've been doing is reasonably
correct and not particularly unusual. So at least I got that going for
me.
