Problem solved after a tip from SMC tech. support.
The systems which fail to connect were attempting
to negotiate link parameters. Correct parameters
should be imposed. In linux this command works.
ethtool -s eth0 speed 10 duplex half autoneg off
In MS-Win the parameters can be specified in the
properties of the device.
