What happens if you cp (or tar/detar) the whole mail tree directly
to the new location? (I'd then rm the co-located index files. Evo
should then recreate them.)
The geeky thing to do would be to turn your P3 into a satellite
relay mail server by converting the mbox files to Maildir, then
install/config courier-imap, postfix, fetchmail, spamassassin and
maildrop.
