I had in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf
command=/usr/bin/X -dpi 96 -audit 0  +accessx 0

and after changing that to
command=/usr/bin/X -dpi 110 -audit 0  +accessx 0

did not help.
What helped was adding two lines in /etc/X11/xorg.conf into
Section "Monitor"

        HorizSync       30-70
        VertRefresh     50-160

which are from my monitor specification.

Thanks
