top posting is where you put your reply at the top of the message. I just makes it difficult to read after a few replies, as people usually read top-> down

thanks for the quick reply.
1. I do not know what you mean by top post???? Can you explain so i do not
do it again. thanks.
2. I do not get you get in your messeges logs. Here is what i get :

Aug 10 13:38:16 rider kernel: usb 1-8: USB disconnect, address 3
Aug 10 13:38:32 rider kernel: usb 1-8: new full speed USB device using
ohci_hcd and address 4
Aug 10 13:38:33 rider kernel: usb 1-8: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

What happened here is that i unpluged the usb device (my cingular 8125
cellphone ) and i plugged it back in again..
this time it shows up with an address of 4 and that is it.
I see more devices in the /dev/ directory..but do not see any quick and easy
correlation ..like the you have it in your logs.
Any help would be appriciated.

thanks
mjh

Ok, so it's a phone we are trying to connect to. That kinda changes things. Phones can be strange beasts to deal with. You might want to check out these pages:
