New LCD monitor problem
I am attempting to get a Samsung 204BW 20" LCD monitor setup for a
new amd-64 system I have ordered, but am having problems setting it
up.
I have spent the weekend goggling for answers but was unable to
locate anything that worked here.
The monitor has a top resolution of 1680x1050 but I am able to get
only 1024x768 and 1152x864 to work in X and only 1024x768 on the
console.
I use 1280x1024 and 1152x864 on the CRT with the same, analog, video
card (Tseng ET6000).ie vga=791, 792, and 793 worked on the CRT but
no 1280x1024 modes work on the LCD.
I'm also being bugged by the fbset and xvidtune commands. I haven't
used fbset in years so its probably me but it does not seem to be
doing what it should.
VT3 root-3-TESTING:~# fbset -v 1280x1024-70

Reading mode database from file `/etc/fb.modes'
Using video mode `1280x1024-70'
Setting video mode to `/dev/fb0'
OK it says its set
but then
VT3 root-3-TESTING:~# fbset -v

timings 12714 128 32 16 4 128 4

endmode
Says its not. ?????
If anyone could give me a 'kick' in the right direction, I would
greatly appreciate it. I've been fighting this for over 30 hours and
am at a loss as to what I am doing wrong. (Forest for the trees thing)
