That seems to be a configuration and/or usage problem. Modification
times are preserved on my unison syncs. Also my linux is *much* faster
than my XP on any file transaction. (copying a GB-file from my vfat HD
to a vfat usb-disk takes about twice the time on XP than copying the
same file on debian and the very same hardware).
