Which version do you have?  I just installed the following, and it runs 
with no problems on an up-to-date Etch box:

Version      9.20
Build        638
Platform     Linux
System       i686, 2.6.16-2-k7
Qt library   3.3.7
Java         Java Runtime Environment installed
