Both -> error "select() to /dev/rtc to wait for clock tick timed out"

I also tried adding this at the end of /etc/defaults/rcS:

HWCLOCKPARS="--directisa"

and rebooted.  That didn't fix it either.  Thanks anyway for the suggestion.
