(note not linuux, could this simply be a spelling problem?)

linux-image-2.6-[flavour] is a meta package that always depends on the
most recent kernel (within Etch).  Right now, it will depend on
linux-image-2.6-18-*-[flavour].

Please send:

/etc/apt/sources.list

output of 

# aptitude update
# aptitude install linux-image-2.6-[flavour]

We need to see the actual messages rather than a "couldn't get this to
work".
