First: 

It was a joke.  How to join two strings (ropes, lines) of unknown
(different) sizes.  A reef knot will pull out if the size differs.
Usefull to attach a 1/4" messenger line to the end of a large mooring
line.

This is a debian user's list, primarily to help debian users with
probelems, you know, using debian.  Not for answering homework questions
that have nothing to do with debian.
