Use apt-get instead. It uses less resources. (I think.)
Also, you might try making a minimal CD repository that you can then
bring over to the 486.
But then, is there any pressing *need* to upgrade it from Woody?
If you must, you could build individual packages on the 486. People
did it 15 years ago, you can do it today!
