My ignorance is > revealed, but I learn, slowly. The closest free piece of software you can get is, AFAIK, nvi (new vi), which is included in debian, but I doubt it's auto-installed. Vim also behaves differently when called as 'vi' - a lot of options and you never know which if you didn't set it up yourself. Thoams
