Meaning that sometimes the following can happen...

Company W makes "Wizbang Device 1000" using Company UC's "UltraChipset 250c". But Company W decides to rename the chipset "Our Awesome Chipset 100".
The chipset is otherwise unchanged.  Confusion ensues.

Is that what you mean?
