That filter worked for me too. I have adblock installed in Mozilla 
browser on Debian Testing. I didn't see a popup though. The video is 
there, is it done using Flash? I could install the flash blocker to 
prevent it from playing.

On the other hand, I don't care much for the website in question. 
Killing the window was useful because it can help with other sites too.
