Actually I'm pretty sure the error was that in the subject I had listed the name of a file, so the server filters rejected it.

Even after the message to which you are replying went through, I sent off another copy of that message and it never came back. I changed the contents of the subject field and it went through. That a latter message went through was sufficient to determine the problem was in the message contents, not in the latency of the mailing list.

Email and newsgroups aren't instant (that's what XMPP is for). Give things
a day or two before thinking there's a problem.
