I have an Asus M2N-SLI which uses the nVidia 570 chipset. I needed to
use Etch because Sarge doesn't recognize the SATA drives/controller
(part of the 570 chipset).

As far as Debian not constantly updated for stability reasons, you are
correct for the __stable__ release of Debian in that Stable only gets
security fixes. However, there is __testing__ (current code name Etch,
which hopefully will be the new stable next month). Testing is always
changing. For further and more precise details see the debian web page
under releases.

To install Etch, follow the releases link to testing then to the
installer page. Read the installation manual for Etch then make a
daily-image installer for your boot and install media of choice.

Good luck.

Doug.
