Of course - the phone gives zero logging possibilites.
Note that the phone can successfully send via TLS to googlemail - so it should support TLS just fine.

You should validate that the TLS is working with some sort of sane TLS MUA from a regular PC, just to make sure the server is "doing the right thing". Perhaps even a desktop setup will fail?


Thunderbird on mac and linux and windows and Mail.app on mac are all talking TLS to it just fine.
