Maybe its just bad luck on my part, but then again maybe not. We here often recommend the daily builds or beta builds of etch as install media to newbies having hardware trouble. Well, if you look at the debian-installer page you'll find a link to http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/News/2006/20061017 which claims that beta 3 images will be broken. I initially thought that would mean that some aspect of the software would be broken. (and I can't pass up a change to try and solve problems) Well, it turns out that the images themselves are broken -- integrity checks fail. I thought this might have been a transient problem on my system so I downloaded from a different machine and burned with different software etc... nope. same problem. Anyway, word to the wise, watch out for the beta 3 images (except the full installation disks) for the next little while. A
