The current testing branch 'etch' is going to be released as 'stable' hopefully by December. So there is active testing being done using 'testing' to get as many bugs fixed for the release. So you can try this to see if it works for your hardware. Debian also has many LUGs(linux user groups) and companies in your part of the world. So you can potentially meet many people involved in Debian and other free software projects and participate in meetings, lectures, workshops and BSP (bug squashing parties) where users help Debian fix critcal bugs that affect its next release. On the Debian site[0] there are listings of various cd images that you can use. Look for the business card iso, cd images (#1 and #2 are the most useful to get a basic install) or the net install cd. Also feel free to join us on irc.debian.org on #debian to get more help. Welcome to Debian!
