Re: Install on HP Pavilion DV6119US?
Okay, solved. Thanks to a message in this list, I knew the problem lay in
ntfsresize.
I tried using Alt-F2 to switch to the second VT of the Debian installer, but
for no reason I can figure out, any command to BusyBox that would access the
filesystem (including ls or df) froze the computer.
So I booted Knoppix and ran ntfsresize from one of its VTs, and got:
ntfsresize v1.13.1-WIP (libntfs 9:0:0)
Device name : /dev/sda1
NTFS volume version: 3.1
Cluster size : 4096 bytes
Current volume size: 66534257152 bytes (66535 MB)
Current device size: 66534257664 bytes (66535 MB)
Checking filesystem consistency ...
100.00 percent completed
Accounting clusters ...
Cluster accounting failed at 3147732 (0x3007d4): extra cluster in $Bitmap
Filesystem check failed! Totally 1 cluster accounting mismatches.
ERROR: NTFS is inconsistent. Run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot it TWICE!
The usage of the /f parameter is very IMPORTANT! No modification was
and will be made to NTFS by this software until it gets repaired.
Taking the program's advice, I booted into Windows and ran chkdsk /f twice,
rebooting a total of three times. (Okay, I overdid it, but it cost me
nothing.)
And as I type this, the Debian Installer is resizing the partition.
So, since none of the installer developers seem to read this list, I suppose
I had better make a bug report out of this. That error message should be
passed along to the user, not just ignored. And why did the installer
freeze when I ran "df"?
Thanks for the hint upthread.
