According to some comments here:

Sounds like the new hardware might not be ready until the kernels
are updated.
Not sure though.

I might try to pull the drive and install it on an old Pentium system.
Upgrade the kernel to 2.6.17/18 or so and then just slap it into my new gear 
and see if she boots.
