Yes, a quick and dirty way would be to install the package with
dpkg and "--force-depends".  But in general changed dependencies make
sense, so I don't think it will work very well.

A slightly better solution would be to use equivs.  But I think the best
way would be to just get the source package (.orig.tar.gz, .dsc and
.diff.gz) and build the old mysql on an etch box.
