Desktop optimized (preemptive) kernels are still not a trend in
mainstream distros, although for sure they will start being very soon.
Running Debian, you can compile yourself a vanilla kernel with Ingo
Molnar's patches (as I usually do) or go for Demudi or Musix optimized
kernels. Fedora Core users can go for Planet CCRMA, and such...
