One of the first lessons any Linux newbie deserves to learn is how to 
use KNOPPIX, PCLinuxOS, DSL, or any of the other live CDs.

I remember not knowing about CTL-ALT-F[1,6] even when I knew how to 
change consoles using ALT-F[1,6] but got stuck in X11 and couldn't 
get out. There are _tons_ to little things like that that so many 
people take for granted that newbies don't already know.
