for me the following setting works on 3 machines:

relayhost = [mail.gmx.net]
sender_canonical_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/canonical
smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes
smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd
smtp_sasl_security_options = noanonymous
smtp_tls_note_starttls_offer = yes
smtp_use_tls = yes

though that way it also uses tls...
so you might want to skip smtp_use_tls
