Modify the DebianInstaller to add a new kernel choice

I've attempted to add a new kernel to one of the debian installer iso's,
following the instructions at this page:
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/Modify

Everything appears to go OK, however, when the installer is running, it
does not show me the new kernel as one of the choices for installation.
Is this also hardcoded into the installer itself? What other changes
need to be made if so?

(I basically need to add the 2.6.17 to the most recent daily builds to
take advantage of a USB patch against HP's iLO2. The latest daily
installer betas use 2.6.17 for the install, but still only install 2.6.16)

Thanks,
jef
