My ICP Vortex from 1998 (3 channels) was died last year
and I had to buy a new one using the same Harddrives...
No problems with ICP Vortex.
Same if you are using 3Ware Controller (PATA and SATA)
I use both and have no problems switchin from a 4 channel
3w7506-4LP to a 12 channel 3W85xx-12

Not right, since I was running into Troubles updating
from linux 2.4 to 2.6 since many things had changed.
