Same as you I think - 2.6.8-3

You might want to try playing (i.e. disabling) the drive's suspend/sleep
timers through hdparm.

To stop your partition getting remounted read-only on error, you can
edit out that option (set by default for the root partition I think) out
of /etc/fstab. I don't know whether having this option is a good idea or
not, I always just left it there.
