It was actually a Bendix G15d I started on -- the machine with a 
magnetic drum as both main memory and registers.  The IBM 1620 was a big 
improvement -- it could actually use *letters* as data, instead of just
digits (and u,v,w,x,y,x to make hexadecimal).
