RE: Just a thought

Actually: XP can run games written for it a some but not all games written for
previous windows version. One can of course boot up CDs for self-booting
games.

Linux, on the otherhand:

Can run games written for it. These include knockoffs of most windows classics
such a solitaire and freecell. ports of doom and quake and that ilk, and
stuff unknown on windows such as frozenbubbles, peguin racer, etc. (which
could be compiled to run on windows if one wishes--opensource).

Can run many windows games using WINE.

Can run pure .net games directly. Install mono from Novell (also opensource!).

Can run classic ROM games using mame, xmess, etc.

Can run DOS and windows games using virtual machine programs such as qemu and
dosbox.

Can run LucasArts games using the appropriate software.

In other words, if one is willing to put in minimal effort .... YES! Go for
it!
