I only use Firewire for external storage and pulling video from a
camcorder. Linux works perfectly for that.
There is also Ethernet-over-Firewire, which Sid auto-detects. Why
your install doesn't autodetect it, I can't say.

Is "common sense" really valid?
For example, it is "common sense" to white-power racists that
whites are superior to blacks, and that those with brown skins
are mud people.
However, that "common sense" is obviously wrong.
