Way Back When, KDE (more specifically, Qt) had a non-OSS-friendly
license. Thus was born GNOME.
Since Debian and it's Developers were/are committed to free
software, GNOME was naturally the preferred "heavy" desktop.
Another consideration is that KDE is, from what I see on the mailing
lists, a more complicated set of packages to build.

Is "common sense" really valid?
For example, it is "common sense" to white-power racists that
whites are superior to blacks, and that those with brown skins
are mud people.
However, that "common sense" is obviously wrong.
